History since 1820
Jibb Barro was born in Fleurier, Switzerland in 1820. His interest in watchmaking was influenced by his father, who used to work in a watch shop. Since his childhood, Mr. Jibb Barro had been exposed to the knowledge and skills of traditional Swiss watchmaking, and had different movements designs.
At the age of 20, Jibb Barro was already able to produce simple movements and had become a well-known technician in the watchmaking industry in Switzerland. He was the youngest person who could produce watch movements independently at that time.
In 1850, Jibb Barro started to engage in the research and development of automatic movements so to overcome the inaccuracy and unreliability of traditional movements. He made a number of inventions on the design of movements as well as the parts used that significantly improved the accuracy and stability of traditional watch movements. Mr. Jibb Barro’s achievement and contribution were praised by the industry and he was officially recognized as a Swiss pocket-watch movements expert.
Apart from his life-long dedication to movements research and development, Mr. Jibb Barro had also spent much efforts to develop the young generation watchmakers. He recruited young people who had passion and interests in watchmaking to join the Barro family team. Mr. Jibb Barro preached to the team on professional skills and his unique watchmaking techniques, and thus leaving very valuable assets of movements design for the next generations.
